Shakira just joined Bizarrap, the Argentinian DJ and hitmaker making her massive comeback, for her first Coachella performance on the Sahara stage.
After introducing herself with a wolf howl, the Colombian pop legend took the mic to perform two collaborations with Bizarrap: “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, the 2023 highlight of her new album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloranas Their club-ready banger, “La Fuerte”. A swarm of screaming fans came forward, waving Argentine and Mexican flags to welcome the diva to the desert.
Shakira also broke some big news on stage: she's embarking on a world tour to promote it Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. “Starting here this November, in this city,” he added, though it was unclear if he meant the city of Indio.
Bizarrap's heavy set had the crowd going wild as he performed a marathon of songs from his viral Music Sessions series, which showcases talented MCs from across Latin America: Quevedo, Rauw Alejandro, Villano Antillano and Young Miko. Biza also brought a taste of Mexican corridos with his latest Session Natanael Cano and “Entre Las 20”, along with its electric partnership with Peso Plumawho is due to appear later in the evening.
Shakira's Coachella debut comes months after a Visits Daily Double The report claimed that her team pushed to headline the festival, but that “Coachella eventually passed.” In March, Shakira drew a crowd of more than 40,000 in Times Square as she performed songs from Las Mujeres No Lloran.
In a Rolling rock review, Suzy Exposito wrote of the album: “Shakira finally turns the page on these tumultuous past two years and reinvents herself – not as Shakira the soccer player, not Shakira the heartthrob – but Shakira fucking Mebarak, international pop icon and unbeatable champion.”
