Slipknot have revealed that they have started rehearsing with a mystery new drummer.
The band teased Jay Weinberg's replacement in a social media postsharing an image of a broken drumstick with the word: “Rehearsal.”
Not surprisingly, fan speculation is at a fever pitch, with many convinced that Weinberg's replacement is Eloy Casagrande based on the Promark drumstick seen in the social media post (Casagrande's preferred brand). . The timing does fit, as Casagrande recently exited Sepultura rather abruptly just weeks before the Brazilian thrash band embarked on their farewell world tour.
Slipknot and their new drummer have a little over a month to perfect the setlist. The band will play their first concert of 2024 on April 27 at Sick New World in Las Vegas, followed by appearances at Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 12 and Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, on May 19. you can find tickets here.
If Casagrande is indeed the new drummer, he won't come in completely cold. The Brazilian has released drum covers of Slipknot songs like “People = Shit” and “The Heretic Anthem,” proving that he is more than capable of performing the complex parts written by the late Joey Jordison.
