Three, six, nine, it's time for Steve Aoki to fire up the machine once again with a familiar collaborator in tow.
The hitmaker has teamed up with Lil Jon to reboot the latter's iconic track, “Get Low.” Released in 2003 by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, the song left an indelible mark on the music industry, particularly in the popularization of crunk, a subgenre of hip-hop that gained widespread attention over the years.
Aoki's latest effort at channeling nostalgia comes in the wake of his remix of another turn-of-the-century hit, Yellowcard's “Ocean Avenue,” which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Combined with Lil Jon's ever-charismatic presence, the DJ's reputation for reviving classics suggests this reboot will likely succeed in breathing new life into a song that defined an era of popular music.
Not to mention, the two have an established history of starting parties dating back to 2011, when they released “Turbulence.” They've rekindled that spirit on “Get Lower”, transforming the original album into an electro house track.
“Jon and I have been friends for years, and every time we get together on a track, it's a party,” Aoki said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “When we performed at Tomorrowland last year, the energy was off the charts and we knew we had to create another festival anthem. 'Get Low' is one of the most hyped songs of all time, and it's an honor to work with Jon to bring it back for the next generation.”
