Stray Kids finally walked the Met Gala stairs.
The eight K-pop superstars attended their first Met Gala on Monday (May 6) as guests of Tommy Hilfiger, who created custom pieces for each member in the brand's signature red, white and blue color palette with rich gold accents . All eight members of Stray Kids sported stylish tailored attire from the collection, under oversized coats.
“It's our first time. We are excited to be here,” Bang Chan said in an interview Fashion. “If it wasn't for Tommy we wouldn't be here so thank you Tommy for inviting us all.
He continued about the custom suit process, “We had several fitting sessions and everything went really smoothly. Personally, I really like everyone's 'matches'.
As for Hilfiger, he says his new spring collection is all about “rethinking contemporary prepping,” which is why he chose Stray Kids as his guests. “It's as modern as you can get. It's modern conditioning and it's a superstar,” he revealed.
This year's Met Gala theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is set to feature 250 items from the Costume Institute's permanent collection. Works will be exhibited at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art in new ways, including elements such as video animation, CGI, AI and more.
The dress code, meanwhile, is “The Garden of Time.” As Andrew Bolton, chief curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said Fashion“It's very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”
