SZA thinks life is better in “Saturn” on her new single out Thursday (February 22) via Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records.
The stunning track arrives nearly three weeks after “Saturn” first appeared in a Mastercard commercial that aired during the Grammys, where SZA ran around an enchanted forest while endorsing Mastercard's Priceless Planet Coalition which promotes forest restoration. “We are a force of nature when we stand together. That's why I support Mastercard in its mission to restore forests around the world. Come with me,” SZA says at the end of the ad.
The ad aired during the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 4, when SZA — the most nominated artist of the night with nine nods — took home three awards: best R&B song (“Snooze”), best progressive R&B album (warning sign) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Ghost in the Machine” with Phoebe Bridgers).
“Saturn” — which was written by SZA, Carter Lang, Rob Bisel, Solomonophonic and Monsune and produced by the latter four — finds the superstar disillusioned with the world around her and wondering if life would be better if she could start from the beginning to Saturn. It was released as a five-track package that includes the original track as well as the live, faster, a cappella and instrumental versions.
According to reports, the song will feature in her upcoming release warning sign deluxe album titled WOOL. warning sign debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 upon its December 2022 release and spent 10 nonconsecutive weeks there — the most of any female R&B/hip-hop album since Mariah Carey's self-titled debut spent 11 weeks at the top in 1991.
