The tour of the season is back in full swing, which means Swifties have also been keeping track of which of Taylor Swift's deep cuts have made it onto the surprise song track of the three-hour show. In her first appearance back at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, the singer launched into her live debut of 'Dear Reader', a soulful track from the deluxe edition of Midnight.
The file finds Swift giving advice on finding balance. “Dear reader, bend when you can, pull when you must/Dear reader, you don't have to answer just because you're asked,” he sings. “Dear reader, the greatest luxury is your secrets/Dear reader, when you aim at the devil, be careful not to miss.” But even her guidance comes with a warning: “Never take advice from someone who is falling apart.”
For the second surprise song of the night, Swift chose “Holy Ground” from her 2012 album Red.
Swift will perform three more concerts in Tokyo before flying to Australia later this month – after, of course, stopping in Las Vegas this weekend for the Super Bowl as an honorary member of the Kansas City Chiefs. In the coming months, the singer will play dates in Singapore, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, England, Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Austria, USA and Canada.
By the time she starts touring in May, she will have released her latest album, Department of Tormented Poetswhich will be released on April 19. During the concert in Tokyo, Swift revealed that if she hadn't won an award at the Grammys on Sunday, where she announced the album's title and release date, she would have saved it as a concert treat.
“I thought, 'OK, if I'm lucky enough to go up there and win one thing tonight, I'm just going to do it. I'm about to announce my new album,” Swift told the audience. “And thankfully, that ended up happening. My backup plan was to do it tonight in Tokyo. But thanks to you and your support, I was lucky enough to win a Grammy and talk to you about it on stage at the Grammys. And now we can talk about it later, we can do a debriefing tonight.”
