Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swift, will not face charges for an alleged altercation with a paparazzi photographer in Sydney, Australia, earlier this year.
The incident occurred in February when Swift was making her “Eras Tour” stops in Melbourne, Australia. According RTÉ, photographer Ben McDonald was trying to take pictures of Swift, but had an “umbrella shoved in his face to prevent his photo from being taken” as the pop star and her entourage walked along a pier toward her vehicle. McDonald alleged that Scott then confronted him and “went further.”
Following the incident, McDonald filed a complaint with the Australian police, who opened the investigation that has now been closed. In a new statement, police acknowledged that they had “conducted” the investigation and that “no further police action would be taken.”
When reports of the incident first emerged, Scott was said to have attacked and knocked McDonald to the ground (although the photographer walked away without requiring medical treatment). A statement Swift's team shared with Peoplehowever, it alleges that “Two individuals aggressively pushed their way toward Taylor, grabbed her security staff and threatened to throw a female staff member into the water.”
Swift's Melbourne dates were followed by performances in Sydney and Singapore. In May, the “Eras Tour” will resume in France, followed by European and North American stages. Check out Swift's upcoming tour dates and get tickets here.
