The Coronas release a new song, 'Speak Up', today, April 30, ahead of a summer full of massive shows, while announcing plans for a new album to be released this fall.
Written in Dingle Co. Kerry, which is now a home from home for the Dublin trio, 'Speak Up' is The Coronas' first release since 2022's chart-topping album Time Stopped.
The song is an inspiring cry for help and guidance, a journey of lyrical positivity that ranges from an intimate vocal to a huge chorus, packed with instrumentation and harmony. “I guess this is exactly what growth is.” sings a reflective Danny O'Reilly, in a song that grows to practically jump out of the speakers. 'Speak Up' has already been a huge success at the band's live shows, leaving the group very excited to present it to the world.

Its release heralds the start of a busy summer for the multi-platinum band. They return to The Marquee in Cork, a venue where they have enjoyed some of their favorite shows, Fairview Park in Dublin where they played to an incredible crowd last summer, along with great shows in Galway and Limerick. All this in addition to two more US tours, which will culminate in the release of the new album in the fall. A tight schedule but the band is eager to get started.
In an ever-changing music industry, the Coronas' longevity is exceptionally impressive and should be celebrated. Their early hits like 'San Diego Song', 'Heroes or Ghosts' and 'Addicted to Progress' not only give their shows a magical sense of nostalgia, but they have continued to evolve and release new, successful material over the last decade. Their last three albums have gone straight to No. 1 on the Irish charts, while their live following has grown exponentially overseas, with recent sell-out tours in the US, Canada and Australia a testament to their success.
“When we started the band, people bought CDs, we were a student band that talked by word of mouth.” explains O'Reilly. “We persevered through the download phase, legal and illegal, the vinyl resurgence, to the current iteration of the music industry, the era of streaming and TikTok dances. We've always ignored a lot of that trendy stuff and consider ourselves a live band first and foremost. For us it's always been simple: we pride ourselves on releasing good songs and improving our live set, with every show we do and album we release.”
This formula seems to have been very useful for The Coronas. Recognized as one of the country's best live acts, the band have been headlining major shows and festivals in Ireland for almost 15 years, and their regular Christmas shows at the Olympia Theater are legendary.
“We are proud of our longevity” says O'Reilly. “We still feel like we have something to say and we are very excited to release the new album in the fall. “We feel like it’s our strongest album to date.”
