Tones And I is back in the history books as Australian artist 'Dance Monkey''s monster hit surpasses 3 billion streams on Spotify.
With this feat, Tones (real name: Toni Watson) becomes the first female artist to achieve this streaming milestone.
Since its commercial launch in 2008, Spotify has entered just eight songs into the three billion stream club. With the exception of “Dance Monkey”, all are recorded by male artists from North America or the United Kingdom.
At the top of the tree is The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights' (4.092 billion streams), ahead of Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' (3.796 billion) and Lewis Capaldi's 'Someone You Loved' (3.239 billion), respectively .
Ever since 'Dance Monkey' was released in May 2019, nothing has been the same. The single logged 24 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart, an all-time record, and spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on the Official UK Singles Chart, a record for a solo female artist.
Constantine Kersting Produced and mixed the song, which reached No. 1 in over 30 countries worldwide.
Tones, a one-time busker, also scored a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Dance Monkey.” The second single from her debut EP The children are coming“Dance Monkey” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, earned the artist her first top 10 hit on Billboard's Pop Airplay, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts, and Tones earned the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 Songwriters Chart.
Apple, owner of music recognition app Shazam, named “Dance Monkey” the most Shazamed song of all time, with users of the app recognizing the track more than 44.4 million times. And in April 2023, the official music video for “Dance Monkey” had two billion views on YouTube.

Tones is currently opening for Pink's Summer Carnival stadium tour of Australia, which should also break records. When she wraps up her final show at the end of March, the Live Nation-produced trek is expected to surpass 900,000 ticket sales for Australia and New Zealand, a ticket record for a solo female artist.
Earlier in the month, Tones shared new single “Dreaming,” which was co-written with X Ambassadors' Sam Nelson and co-produced by Nelson and Randy Belculfine.
“Dreaming” will appear on her second album, which is expected to be released later this year and follow in 2021 Welcome to Madhousewhich debuted at No.1 on the ARIA Chart.
