Tracy Chapman celebrated the recent revival of her 1988 hit “Fast Car” by performing it alongside Luke Combs at the 2024 Grammys.
The performance marked a rare public appearance for Chapman, who has only performed on camera three times since 2009. Watch a clip of the performance below.
Luke Combs' 2023 cover of “Fast Car” soars to No. 2 on the chart Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the original's peak position of No. 6 in 1988. The song's success on the country music charts made Tracy Chapman the first black woman to have sole songwriting credit on a No. 1 country hit. . Combs, who changed almost nothing about Chapman's original composition, received a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance and also won Single of the Year at the 2023 CMAs.
