Tracy Chapman will make a rare public appearance at this Sunday's Grammy Awards, where she will perform a duet of her 1988 classic “Fast Car” with Luke Combs, according to a new report from Variety.
Combs had already been announced as a performer for the 2024 Grammys, but Chapman's appearance would be a pleasant surprise. By VarietyHe has only performed on camera three times since 2009.
Last year, Combs released a version of “Fast Car” that earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance. It surpassed the original's peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually peaked at No. 2 on that chart.
As a result of her success, Chapman became the first black woman to have sole songwriting credit for a number one country hit. She later called it an honor and expressed her gratitude that the song had reached new fans.

The cover of “Fast Car” was also honored as Song of the Year at the CMAs, although Chapman was unable to attend the ceremony. “It is a true honor that my song is recently recognized after 35 years of its debut,” she said in a statement. “Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and all the 'Fast Car' fans.”
