Australian post-punk rockers Trophy Eyes have spoken publicly for the first time since a fan was fatally injured during a concert last week in Buffalo, New York.
“As a result of a tragic accident on the night of April 30th, a Trophy Eyes fan was injured at our show in Buffalo NY,” reads a post on X. The band “immediately canceled” the show as frontman John Floreani escorted the supporter. in the hospital, with the family.
That fan has now been identified as Bird Piché, whose family and friends have created one GoFundMe to cover her medical expenses. Piché, reads a statement on the fundraising page, suffered a “catastrophic spinal cord injury” while attending the concert and has undergone extensive surgery.
Currently, almost half of the $100,000 goal has been raised.
Bird now faces a long recovery. “It's still too early to know what her prognosis is, but after she leaves the hospital she will need to go to a rehab facility. He will obviously not be able to work during this time,” the statement said.
The incident reportedly occurred when Floreani dived off the stage at Mohawk Place.
Trophy Eyes is said to be “truly devastated” by the news. “This situation has shaken us all to our core and we ask for your patience as we try to help Bird navigate this difficult time,” the band's message reads. “Please keep Bird in your thoughts. We remain in close contact with them and will expand on this as news arrives,” the statement continued.
Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, Trophy Eyes have secured slots at the Vans Warped tour, Reading, Leeds, Splendor In the Grass, Unify Gathering and other major festivals.
