Twenty one pilots have shared the second song, “Next Semester,” from their upcoming album, Clancyreleased May 17.
“Next Semester” is a restless blast of power-punk that wants to start over while still struggling with what's gone before. The song's chorus centers around an inescapable memory, as Tyler Joseph sings, “I remember, I remember certain things/The things I wore, the yellow stripes on the road/I prayed that these lights would take me home/Then I heard, 'Hey Kid, get out of the way!'”.
The song comes with a music video directed by Andrew Donoho. It captures Twenty One Pilots playing “Next Semester” to a rousing, raucous crowd in a small club, while also jumping into a scene similar to the one depicted in the chorus. The clip ends with Joseph walking off stage and into the crowd as he strums a small guitar and sings the final chorus with the help of everyone around him.
Along with dropping “Next Semester,” Twenty One Pilots announced a massive world tour in support of Clancy. The North American leg will begin on August 15th at the Ball Arena in Denver and conclude on October 12th at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
