Country Lady A trio recently opened Audacy's Katie & Company about new music on the road, following their latest singles releases “Love You Back” (which is currently at No. 49 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart) and “A Love Song.”
“We're making our plans together, we've got 'Love You Back' on the radio and then 'A Love Song' is also another song that's out there and you can play it everywhere,” said the group's Hilary Scott. “Those are two really key songs from the project. We'll just see how it goes and then release the whole thing.”
“For us, we're at such an esteemed point in our career,” added Scott's partner Charles Kelley. “We're definitely going in a nostalgic direction. I think we tend to do that a lot. It's a very warm record.”
He noted that he and his Lady A bandmates Scott and Dave Haywood have recorded half of the album, saying, “We're still going to do it in the beginning. [part] of this year and we're still trying to hunt down what we think are the best songs.”
The album will follow the trio's 2021 album What a song can do, which yielded the Top 15 Country Airplay hit “Like a Lady.” Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2008, Lady A has scored 11 No. 1 Country Airplay hits. They've also scored two Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, with 2010's “Need You Now” peaking at No. 2 and 2011's “Just a Kiss” peaking at No. 7.
The band is scheduled to perform at the upcoming iHeartCountry festival in May. In a recent interview with Advertising signthe trio offered their take on why country music is having such a big moment in 2023.
“I think it's just the mix of all the different influences,” Kelley said. “We grew up in the playlist era, where you made a mixtape, so I grew up loving everything. I feel like when we started the band, it was like a bit of The Eagles meets Fleetwood Mac and The Chicks meets Rascal Flatts. It was all together in that sound.”
