Vince Clarke joins Kyle Meredith to talk songs of silence, his first solo album. Drawing inspiration from a variety of unlikely sources, the record finds the legend of Erasure (and Depeche Mode, and Yaz) taking aim at drones and ambient music.
The synth-pop artist talks about how the album was created almost accidentally, inspired by Blade Runner 2049and why ambient music is having a real moment right now. Clarke goes on to talk about how music videos give songs another dimension, adapting an old union folk song and his desire to work with Phillip Glass. He also reveals details of Erasure's upcoming album.
“Even before starting [Songs of Silence]“I was working on some demos and ideas for the next Erasure album,” he jokes. “I think Andy and I will get together early next year.”
