If Jinx Monsoon anything he's proven in recent years is that he's a bit of a chameleon. Whether she's playing a corrupt jailhouse or a leading lady, the drag star can play just about anyone – including the embodiment of music itself.
In an exclusive clip from its upcoming second episode Doctor Who Season 14 titled “The Devil's Chord,” fans get a first look at Monsoon's latest role as the long-running sci-fi series' new villain, Maestro. Dressed in a frosted coat and a frizzy orange 'do, Monsoon's character appears in the new clip to introduce himself to both the audience and aspiring composer Timothy Drake (played by Jeremy Limb).
“My note is Maestro,” the character growls at the start of the clip, before adding: “I'm… music.”
They continue, leaving the viewer Drake to realize that he is “the greatest composer that ever lived.” As they continue to menacingly pull on Drake's strings, the Maestro finally explodes into a tirade about the difficulty of the artistic process.
“But that's how it is sad, Timothy — you were never lucky! You never got that break,” they declare. “All these melodies, drowned and strangled within you.”
The upcoming episode revolves around the doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his partner Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) who travel back in time to 1960s London to meet the Beatles, only to encounter the 'almighty' Maestro who pursues to change its course. history. Talking to you Doctor Who Magazine in April, Doctor Who Showrunner Russell T Davies gave the audience one teaser about what they can expect from Monsoon's appearance on the show, teasing her character as a “malevolent god” and “a deity with daddy issues.”
Meanwhile, Monsoon continues her run as Audrey in its Off-Broadway production Little Shop of Horrorsbefore preparing to rejoin Broadway's cast Chicago on June 27 as Matron “Mama” Morton.
