Steve Martin is typically relentless. The veteran stand-up comedian and legendary improviser was uncharacteristically stunned recently when Only murders in the building His co-star Selena Gomez showed up to cheer him on at the red carpet premiere of the two-part Apple TV+ documentary, Stephanos! (Swallow).
In a clip from the premiere earlier this month, Martin immediately gives Gomez some of his patented glee, joking, “I thought you said you were going to dress up,” as Sel — wearing a stunning black Oscar De La Renta dress — leans in for a kiss on the cheek.
“Shut up, I'm so happy to be here, my family's here!” Gomez tells Martin, who seems genuinely touched by the gesture, saying, “I can't believe you're here! Thank you very much…very good of you!” While Gomez continues to tell him to “stop” making such a fuss, Martin is seen getting a little teary as the pair pose for some photos.
Gomez tells Martin she's excited to celebrate him, noting she brought her stepdad and grandma along, as the funnyman waves to her family and jokes, “I love that you're here, you don't know anything about me ». Selena admits as much, replying, “Yeah, that's why I came, so I can learn.”
She's complaining a bit too much, though, as the pair have most likely learned a lot about each other while filming three seasons of the Hulu murder mystery comedy alongside Martin's frequent comic foil Martin Short.
The two-part doc stream now uses a mix of classic and unusual footage to tell the “then” story of Martin's ascent of the comical Mt. Rushmore before his decision to abruptly stop touring stand-up and his 'now'. life as a beloved elder statesman prankster.
