“Just one of the best songs ever,” Brian says of the late country star's 2002 hit after performing it at a Las Vegas concert
Zach Bryan paid tribute to the late Toby Keith Saturday during his pre-Super Bowl show in Las Vegas, where he delivered an emotional rendition of “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”
“Simply one of the best songs ever”, Brian he tweeted of Keith's 2002 hit after his concert Friday at the Cosmopolitan. “It meant enough to sing my songs and the kindness of the Red, White and Blue with you all.”
Bryan was among dozens of country artists who remembered Keith and acknowledged his impact following news of the “Should've Been a Cowboy” singer's death Tuesday at age 62 after a bout with stomach cancer. Keith “passed peacefully” and was “surrounded by his family,” his family said in a statement. “He fought his fight with grace and courage.”
“Lots of rides in my old car listening to Toby Keith. thing really hard to hear. rest in peace buddy we love you,” Bryan wrote on social media after news of Keith's death. “America lost a fucking hero.”
Bryan also defended Keith against those who were critical of the late singer's political stance and outspoken opinions. “This pretentious thing is so annoying,” Brian said. “Man lived by many wonderful songs. His patriotic shit that related to the world when he did it for some reason, he's a great songwriter. Celebrate it instead of making everything negative go begging.”
