Last week, we were saddened to learn that Wendy Williams was diagnosed with dementia and aphasia. Now, her son is revealing why his famous mother allegedly ended up in tragic circumstances.
Page six reports that Williams' son, Kevin Hunter Jr., joined Lifetime's Where is Wendy Williams? show and revealed that his mother's condition was due to her alcoholism, which he felt had an impact on her “headspace and brain”. While many people drink alcohol to have a good time and relax, some develop a dependency and become alcoholics who abuse the substance without return. Unfortunately, it appears that this was the path Wendy Williams took with disastrous consequences.
Per Page six:
“[Doctors] She basically said that because she was drinking so much, it was starting to affect her headspace and brain. So I think they said it was alcohol-induced dementia.'
Williams, 59, first learned of her brain damage in 2019 when she checked into a rehabilitation center in Florida, but she didn't receive her official diagnosis of dementia and aphasia until 2023.
The former shock jock's niece, Alex Feeney, said she learned of her aunt's diagnosis in 2022 but suspected she was unwell when she started forgetting memories and events.
“But after seeing my aunt and actually spending time with her in a state that she is in right now, I quickly realized that things were not normal,” he said in the document.
“It's heartbreaking.”
On the other hand, Wendy Williams' former attorney, LaShawn Thomas, blames Williams' court-ordered guardianship for her deteriorating health and not being sold on her diagnosis. Posting a video on Instagram showing a healthier Wendy Williams, Thomas questioned how she went from being well to falling apart. “These Wendys are not the same,” Thomas said. “How her health deteriorated so quickly and why her only child is not allowed to be with her. It wasn't like that when he was taking care of her. ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS!”
