Stevie Wonder has called for a path forward through collective healing with his new song, “Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart.” Listen to it below.
With an acoustic guitar and steady percussion, Wonder advocates for mutual understanding and empathy. He insists that there is “light in everyone” and calls on his fellow Americans to come together for the sake of future generations.
“There’s an ever-growing ocean of lies that we’ve been told to tear us down,” Wonder sings. “But what I’ve found is that with our truth, compassion and love we can mend the heart of our nation.”
“Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart” comes a week after Wonder urged the crowd at the 2024 Democratic National Convention to choose “joy over anger” while introducing his performance of “Higher Ground.”
The hopeful song marks Wonder’s first solo release since 2020, when he delivered “Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate” and “Where Is Our Love Song” to kick off the launch of his own record label, So What’s the Fuss Music. Last year, he appeared on The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” alongside Lady Gaga.
