Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and Culture Club singer Boy George have joined forces for a new song. “Let the Flowers Grow,” Murphy says in a press release, came about when he was in Spain working on a new album and heard a track playing on producer Youth's phone. “It caught my ear because of its melodic beauty as well as a Roy Orbison-like voice singing the song,” he says. When he learned it was a Boy George demo, he came up with the version that became “Let the Flowers Grow”. Listen below.
Boy George adds, “When I heard the mix, I was fed up in every way. I've always loved Pete's voice and his writing on this adds a beautiful darkness. The production is very epic, like Scott Walker.”
The pair first met decades ago when Boy George went backstage to meet Howard Devoto at a Bauhaus-sponsored magazine show. “He struck me as a super original, self-proclaimed 17th-century buff,” Murphy says in the press release. “The second time I met him was when we went into the BBC to play 'Ziggy Stardust'. Top of the Pops where Culture Club also made their debut on the show. George greeted me very warmly and I found out that he was a Bauhaus fan.”
