Migos members and childhood friends Quavo and Offset had a falling out in 2022, which led to the breakup of the Georgia trio. They've been slowly building their relationship ever since, with Offset wishing Quavo a happy birthday earlier this year (“Happy gday my brother @quavohuncho love you 4L,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories in April) and the duo reuniting last spring for a one-off appearance at the 2023 BET Awards following the fatal shooting of their TakeOff partner in November 2022.
Now, the sudden death of another peer, Rich Homie Quan — who died Thursday at age 33 — has inspired the two to have a much-needed conversation. On his IG Story, Quavo revealed that he and Offset had a “good talk with my brother,” along with a praying hands emoji.
Exactly why the group fell apart remains murky, but Quavo and the late Takeoff hinted that “loyalty” was at the heart of the breakup while sitting down with of the rebellion Big Events podcast to promote their album Built for Infinity Links only.
“I feel like we want to see our careers as a duo, you know what I'm saying?” Quavo said. “Because you know, we just came from a loyal family, sh– we're supposed to stick together. And sometimes when they don't make it, it's not meant to be.”
Takeoff added: “We don't know all the answers, you feel me? God knows. We pray a lot, you know? Whatever is not right and as you supposedly see fit, you put it back together or however you do it, we pray. So only time will tell. We're always family now, that's not going to change.”
“We'll stand on faith, you know what I mean?” Quavo said. “We stand for the real deal, the faith of the real deal, and sometimes that sh-t doesn't show up. This has nothing to do with any labels, no papers, no QC, no nothing. This was about the three brothers. And sh–, it is what it is. Right now, we're going to be the duo until time tells.”
The late Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug and Migos were instrumental in ushering in a new era of Atlanta rap that has dominated the genre ever since. Quavo posted throwback photos from their time climbing the ranks on his IG Story after learning of his friend's death. “May God be with us. I never saw this being out of our journey,” he wrote in reference to the unfortunate death of Takeoff and Rich Homie Quan’s nephew.
