As Beyoncé enters her country era, the global superstar has the dubious support of at least one fellow artist — Rene Rapp.
During Bad Girls At the star's concert in Paris on Tuesday night (February 13), Rapp delivered a faithful cover of Queen Bey's 2016 country song “Daddy Lessons.” Dressed in baggy jeans and a vintage T-shirt emblazoned with the face of Tejano icon Selena, Rapp performed the Lemonade cut in its entirety, even enlisting the audience to sing along to Beyoncé's vocal riffs.
“With his gun and his head up/ He told me not to cry, oh/ My daddy told me to shoot,” Rap sang on the raucous chorus. “With his right hand on the rifle/ He swore it on the Bible/ My daddy said shoot.”
The cover comes at an opportune time for fans of Beyoncé as a country artist. After a teaser in her Verizon Super Bowl commercial, Bey surprisingly dropped a pair of country singles Sunday night — “Texas Hold Em” and “16 Carriages.” Within days of its release, “Texas Hold Em” began playing on country radio, with Sony Music eventually serving the song in format.
Meanwhile, Rapp is currently embarking on the European leg of her Snow Hard Feelings tour, with Tuesday's show in Paris serving as the official kick-off for her 10 dates across the lake. Following a pair of shows in Germany on Thursday (February 15) and Friday (February 16), the singer will perform in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK, before wrapping up her tour in Dublin on Monday, March 4. Rapp is also set to hit the summer festival circuit this year, including appearances at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and more.
