U2 had a busy Sunday night (February 4). In addition to giving most of the world their first extended look at the stunning visuals from their ongoing residency series at Las Vegas' Sphere during a remote performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers also dropped a track dance. -Ready remix of their single “Atomic City”.
Released in September to coincide with the start of the veteran band's first Vegas stint, the track gets the expected beat upgrade from Guetta, who adds a persistent beat and classic EDM drop to the bare-bones rocker. During the show, U2 performed the song at the Sphere, although the segment began outside the venue, with towering images of the Irish rockers beamed outside in the shape of a sphere.
It was the first time cameras were allowed inside the venue which quickly became one of the most photographed spots on the Vegas strip. U2 were the first acts to set up shop at the Sphere in September, and their lead single “Atomic” became their 14th No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay in November. After their set on Sunday, U2 frontman Bono introduced the nominees for Best Pop Vocal album, which was won by Taylor Swift's Midnight.
U2 are booked to perform at the Sphere until March 2nd. Shorter runs will follow from Phish — who will play four shows from April 18-21 — and Grateful Dead spin-off group Dead & Co., which last week announced a 24-show run from May 16 to July 13.
